Is being a reserve currency good for the US?
The pros and cons of being a global reserve currency
We all grew up with the US dollar as the global reserve currency,
so it's hard to imagine what life would be like if that were not the case.
However, if you look back at history, the dollar is not the first reserve currency,
and every other PREVIOUS reserve currency lost that status.
One might think that losing that status would be bad, a failure of sorts.
However, there are drawbacks to being a reserve currency, and those drawbacks are best explained via the Triffin Dilemma.
